Welcome to Reception
You can read more about the Reception team, our topics, aims and expectations for the children on the Reception curriculum page.
Reception welcomed Charlotte from Tesco Branksome who helped us learn how to make bread rolls. Things got rather messy...! But our bread rolls smelled wonderful once they were baked and we took them home that afternoon to enjoy with our tea. We tasted some unusual breads such as cornbread and described the flavours and textures. Thank you to the staff at Tesco who have been so generous with their time and resources this half term.
Reception explored 'behind the scenes' on their recent visit to Tesco supermarket. The children visited the bakery, explored the fish counter and shared their knowledge in the fruit and vegetable department. A big thank you to all the staff at Tesco for making Reception so welcome.
Helping to construct the willow dome was very exciting and we look forward to using it for storytelling activities in the future.
We had fun sharing our favourite stories at a recent visit to the library. Thank you to all the parent helpers who helped on the walk!
To encourage the children to become more aware of their learning behaviours, Reception have introduced ‘Learnersaurs’. Their names are:
- Solveosaurus Rex
Each Learnersaur will help the children to understand the way they learn best. To launch this, Reception had a Learnersaur Day, with planned activities to develop their problem solving skills, ability to cooperate with others and persevere at tricky tasks. One activity involved designing and making an effective egg protector for a dinosaur egg! The children also worked hard as a team to create dinosaur dens outdoors.
