Big Bang Day
Year 3 were extremely lucky to enjoy a visit from Mr Woods, a local ex-head teacher. He was Mrs Munro's (School Business Manager) inspirational teacher from her childhood.
The children enjoyed making toucans from paper plates and the outline of their own hands and Rainforest scenes with sliding / moving animals.
New Barn Farm
To finish our Celtic topic, Year 3 had a fabulous residential trip to New Barn Farm in Dorchester. We were blessed with absolutely beautiful weather and even better food!
We learnt how to make butter, how to grind flour, how to pick nettles, and engraved pictures into Purbeck stone. Then after a delicious lunch looking out on the beautiful countryside we made clay pots, painted shields and even had our own Celts versus Romans battle!
A highlight for us all was the story teller, Chris Connaughton, who had us enthralled with his Greek Myth. We then headed back to the barn for hot chocolates before our much needed beds.
The following day we built dens, met the animals and threw javelins.
It was an absolutely fabulous trip and the children were an asset to our school.
Esme's Dad kindly gave up his time to visit all of the Year 3 classes and explain his job as a Radiographer. It was great to see
X-rays and learn even more about our marvelous bodies.

Autumn 2 Topic
Children in World War II
In Year 3 this term we are learning about Children in World War II.
On Monday 14th November we held a WWII day, where we all dressed up and took part in various activities; including silhouette art work, making 3D Spitfire airplanes, and making gas masks. We even had a visit from the Evacuee Warden's wife Mrs. Wheatley who taught us how to make soap bags and how to reuse newspaper as part of the important 'Make do and Mend' philosophy.
Take a look a look at the topic web below to see the exciting learning opportunities we will be covering.
We started the new school year and our new topic, Dinosaur Rocks, by making some fossils of our own using the mold and cast technique.....it was a ROARING success!
Class Naming Day
We had a wonderful first day back after the half term. The children were surprised to learn their new animal themed class name and spent the day completing various creative activities based around this.
