School Closure: Click here for Home Learning Activities

Welcome to the Year 5 Home Learning page.

Here is the remote learning for the Summer term 2. We hope that you are all safe and well.

Each week we will continue to upload Maths, English and Reading tasks for children to complete each day. We have made changes to the English activity options and have also added a weekly spelling test. You will find more details about these changes below.

Please could children continue to:

  • Read for 20-30 minutes (independent reading, reading to an adult or sibling, listening to an adult read).
  • Complete an English activity. We are introducing new Talk for Writing (TfW) units, which is the preferred option. However, an alternative option of continuing with the SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) and creative tasks is also provided.
  • Complete a Reading activity.
  • Complete a Maths activity.

Children can also explore the new OPTIONAL wider curriculum activities. The link to these wider curriculum activities can be found on our Year 5 homepage.

Please remember that you can choose activities from the Year 6 page for a greater challenge or from the Year 4 page if the work is a little tricky.

We would love to celebrate the children's efforts when we return to school so please do encourage them to record and save all of their hard work.

If you have any questions about the work or would like some advice about the methods that we use in Year 5 in order to complete the tasks, please do contact us via email at and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Below, you will see our Year 5 School Closure Timetable. Your child may like to create their own timetable using this model too.
The children have logins and passwords for Purple Mash, Spelling Shed, TT Rockstars and Accelerated Reader. These are useful and fun learning tools which could also be timetabled into their day.

Our final week

The week beginning 13th July is the final week of term. It has obviously been  a strange end to the academic year for all. The Year 5 teachers are incredibly proud of the hard work our pupils and parents have put into the Summer term. For Year 5, term finishes on Thursday 16th July, as there are only the Year 6s leavers in school on the Friday. Therefore you will find the usual home learning resources below for a 4 day week - keep that motivation going for this final push. Additionally, you may want to complete the Passport to the next Year document this week or over the Summer holidays; you can bring this in to share with your new teacher in September if you like. The Year 5 team wish you and your families a safe and happy Summer!

Maths Family Challenges

White Rose state that the most suitable questions for Year 5 are Q1 -5 but suggest pupils work with their families on the rest of the problems.

Reserve Maths Option Booklets

These booklets could be useful if you are finding the White Rose Maths work requires too much parental support and you need your child to work independently on their Maths. Please note that these booklets are a 'back up' option for you and not an extra task to complete or a replacement for the White Rose work. White Rose remains our first choice for Maths activities for your child.

English Summer Term (2) Learning

English units

The Year 5 teachers have been really impressed by pupils' efforts with our Talk for Writing units. Well done Year 5! You can see the showcase video for the 'Meet the Rhiswanozebtah' unit on the Longfleet Facebook page by clicking here. We would like to create a showcase video for 'The Game' - please send your final stories to

For our final week, we are doing a 4 day unit on the poem 'Jabberwocky'. This will culminate in pupils performing the poem to their families. The Year 5 team would love to see your performance – if possible, please record and send to or share on the Longfleet Primary Facebook page.  You can find all the resources for this unit below.

Each Friday, you will be given 10 spellings to learn that will follow the Year 5 spelling rules in the National Curriculum. The following Friday there will be a ‘Spelling Test’ video uploaded to the website where Miss Helm will test how well you have learned them! If you are finding these spellings too hard, please try the spellings from Year 3 or 4. If you would like a challenge, please learn Year 6’s spellings.

Both the spelling words and the spelling tests will be uploaded to this section of the website.
