School Closure: Click here for Home Learning Activities

Welcome to the Year 5 Home Learning page.

Each week, the Year 5 teachers will add the home learning sheets for the children to complete at home.  We hope that the children will enjoy completing these tasks and take pleasure in showing their families their favourite methods and skills. They may like to complete the activities on their own or work through them with their family members.

Each day, we would like your child to:

  • Read for 20-30 minutes (independent reading, reading to an adult or sibling, listening to an adult read).
  • Complete a SPaG (Spelling, Punctuation and Grammar) or English creative writing activity.
  • Complete a Reading Comprehension activity.
  • Complete a Maths activity. For the Target Your Maths sheets, we suggest children aim to complete one whole section depending on how confident they feel with the task. Section A = Apprentice, Section B = Professional and Section C = Expert. They are used to moving between sections depending on how confident they feel. There are separate worksheets for pupils in Miss Helm's Maths group. All other groups can complete the main Maths sheet.

Activities should be accessible via download if families wish to print them at home or children can record their work on paper or in an exercise book. The work will be suitable for the majority of our Year 5 pupils; if they are finding the work particularly easy/difficult, then they can look at the work from the Year 4 or Year 6 page. We would love to celebrate the children's efforts when we return to school so please do encourage them to record and save all of their hard work.

We will post the answers for the week’s learning at the same time for you or your child to mark their work. The Year 5 children are used to self-marking in a different coloured pen.
If you have any questions about the work or would like some advice about the methods that we use in Year 5 in order to complete the tasks, please do contact us via email at and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Below, you will see our Year 5 School Closure Timetable. Your child may like to create their own timetable using this model too.
The children have logins and passwords for Purple Mash, Spelling Shed, TT Rockstars and Accelerated Reader. These are useful and fun learning tools which could also be timetabled into their day. Mr Helm also included a number of other useful resources within his School Closure letter/email.

At the bottom of this page there are suggested extra home learning ideas linked to our topics. These are optional activities, which we have downloaded from Twinkl. are offering parents free log-ins for their site should you wish to download additional resources.
