On Friday 28th June, children, who qualified at Poole Town Sports, competed at the Dorset County Finals at Kings Park in Boscombe.
We had participants in the following events:
Everyone who took part did a great job of showing our school values of aspiration and resilience. We even had some children finishing in the top 6; Aidan (6th), Sophie (5th), Mimi (5th) and Imogen (6th)! Well done to everyone who participated!
Longfleet took two teams to an athletics event at Broadstone Middle School, in which the children got to take part in four different athletic activities:
- 600m
- Vortex Howler Throw
- Standing Long Jump
- 75m Sprint
The resilience on show from our athletes was commendable and with points on offer for the top four in each group, every sprint, throw and jump mattered.
Longfleet’s “B” team finished a very respectable 3rd position out of 12 schools in one competition, whilst the “C” team finished 5th in theirs. Thank you to the parents who came to watch and support and to the Broadstone Middle School Sports leaders who delivered the events brilliantly.
Thank you to everyone who joined us for Proms on the Pitch on Wednesday evening! We had a gloriously sunny evening for our event and lots of families came along to enjoy a picnic tea whilst being entertained by the Longfleet musicians. The Orchestra, Bright Lights Worship Band and Choir all gave great performances. We were also treated to some lovely music from our brass, clarinet and recorder ensembles. The Guitar Orchestra performed ‘A New Sea’ – a piece especially written for them by composer Chris Woods and premiered at the Soundstorm ‘Transmission’ concert last week. Finally, we had some exciting moves from Leila’s Dancers and a very loud, very beautiful, very joyful performance of Proud, Life In All Its Fullness and The Power In Me by all the children at Proms. Oh, and how could we forget…the staff band gave a great performance of Stand By Me! Hopefully the start of a new Proms tradition?
We’re delighted to announce that all 18 of our clarinet and brass candidates passed their ABRSM Grade 1 and Grade 2 exams with flying colours! Jiya also passed her Grade 3 violin exam and we are waiting on results for our two Cello candidates. Well done children. You have demonstrated aspiration, resilience and kindness by aiming high, persevering and supporting each other along the way.
