  • Sport Relief

    Thu 29 Mar 2018

Longfleet had an action-packed (and occasionally soggy) Sport Relief Day. The "mini-marathon" was a triumph of resilience and kindness, with the KS2 children helping the Reception and Year One children complete as many laps as possible. The "Dance-Off" sessions were loved by the children, with Reception in particular showing great energy. The children also completed activities inside, such as "Design-a-kit" and indoor games such as table football and even shove ha'penny!

    Have a great Easter Break!

  • New Barn

    Thu 29 Mar 2018 Geckos

We loved New Barn but it was very muddy in places, especially on the second day after we had been walking around and it had rained. We absolutely loved the food. At the BBQ we could have a sausage, burger, cheese and chips. We could have as much as we wanted as long as we ate what we took. The yummy pudding was Rocky Road. For breakfast you could have cereals, toast, sausage, bacon, baked beans and /or mushrooms and a drink.

During the survival activity day, we really enjoyed making embers. Some of us saw smoke. We also learnt how to collect water, which meant we had to build a water trap. We built a shelter after creating a plan using a mini version of the equipment, we would be given to create our life side shelters. Some of us were very successful and sadly some of our shelters fell over, but we had fun and worked on our team building skills. Our last skill was about getting food and we had a chance to throw spears, (parents – don’t panic, they were actually bamboo sticks!)

On the Celtic day we learnt how to grind flour. The people who had the Celtic Day on the first day were successful in making butter, unfortunately the children who did it on the second day were unsuccessful as it was cold and wet. We got to look at and hold Celtic weapons. They were heavier than they looked. We learnt many facts sitting around a fire in the Grand Hall, a mud hut made of poo and straw, covered in a chalk mixture. The session ended with a historical story around a fire in a round house. The smell in of the fire really got into our clothes and hair.

We returned home tired and happy to see our families, having had a great time.
  • Year 6 celebrate VE Day: Tuesday, 8th May, 1945

    Thu 29 Mar 2018 Year 6 Team

Year 6 have had an amazing day thinking about, and celebrating, the end of World War 2. Activities in the morning included a workshop run by Poole Museum, a jive lesson, and creating party bunting and decorations.

In the afternoon we enjoyed a street party with all our friends. The children had been very busy preparing jam sandwiches and homemade lemonade which was shared during the festivities. We listened to Churchill’s speech declaring Germany’s surrender, sang the National Anthem and performed our dances to our parents.

We would like to thank the children, parents and staff for their efforts in dressing up and contributing to the feast!

  • Year 1 Great British Make Off!

    Thu 29 Mar 2018

A massive THANK YOU to all the parents and carers who came into school for Year 1’s Great British Make Off. The children had a fantastic time making their landmarks and it was wonderful to see some very creative parents helping to make some truly inspired models! It is always a pleasure to share the children’s learning with you and we hope to see you at our next Fab Finale in the Summer Term.

  • Year 4 Roman Day

    Wed 28 Mar 2018

On Romans day, first we talked about Romans’ lives. Then we talked about Julius Caesar, Claudius and other famous Emperors.

Following this, we went outside to march. The Romans marched right foot then left foot. The names for right and left were: Right was Dex and left was Sin. We split into three groups: one group were using tiles to make Roman mosaics; the other group were trying out armour and looking at [holding] a shield while the third group were throwing fake spears and using catapults with fake golf balls. Then we swapped twice.

After break, we did some pretend gladiator fighting and they showed us some weapons that might have been used by gladiators in Roman times. We held fake gladiator fights against each other. We had to either be a Roman or an enemy.

In the afternoon, we were in our classrooms and we had a go at some Latin writing and some Roman cookery. It was a great day! by Tegan and Haydn, Year 4

  • New Barn - Year 3

Year 3 arrived safety at New Barn and have been enjoying a variety of activities. The group has split into two groups, one doing survival activities including creating a water collecting device and building shelters. • Year 1/2 and 3/4 Multi Skills Festivals

    Mon 26 Mar 2018
Longfleet made two trips to Carter Community School for sessions delivered by Carter's Year 7-9 Sports Ambassadors. The children loved the festival, which included balance skills, speed and agility activities. They were thoroughly puffed out by the end of the hour session but would definitely come back again!
  • Portland Bill Lighthouse Trip - Year Two

    Mon 26 Mar 2018
The Year Two children have had a very exciting end to the term with an inspiring visit to Portland Lighthouse. They spent the day completing various activities such as climbing to the top of the lighthouse (153 steps!), where we heard the unique sound of the horn, a quiz and the children produced some lovely artwork. It was a thoroughly enjoyable day. Thank you to all of the adults who gave up their time to help on the trip.
  • Easter Services

    Fri 23 Mar 2018

This week we have held three Easter services at St. Mary's Longfleet Church.  The Upper Key Stage Two service was a more traditional event with some beautiful singing from the pupils and choir.  Reception and Key Stage One was an 'uplifting' occasion with some lively songs for everyone to enjoy.  Lower Key Stage Two dramatically told the Easter Story with some superb acting and storytelling using both spoken word and songs.

Congratulations to everyone involved - the church was full for three days in a row with a feeling of joy and new life.

  • Running Club and Sports Relief

    Fri 23 Mar 2018
Some of the older pupils of our Running Club joined the Poole Teachers' Sports Relief run this morning.  One of our parents, who is also the headteacher of Sylvan Infant School, was running to each school in Poole to raise money.  We joined him (and his crew) for the Longfleet to Baden Powell leg.
