  • MERMAIDS This is an excellent resource for parents, professionals and children and young people among many other things it has an on-line parents and a youth forum as well as a helpline and a range of resources to read and watch.

Billy Clarke is the worker to speak to.  Billy will come into schools to talk about LGBT+ issues at both primary and secondary level. He is also able to offer one to one support for young people and then signpost them to relevant services.

  • Boing Boing A useful site that gives you resources to use with children and young people (and families) to help build resilience.
  • Young Minds Dorset Mind Your Head A resource with helpful and supportive information for young people about mental health issues including one for LGBT+ young people. It also signposts to a number of services who can support around this.
  • SPACE YOUTH PROJECT Dorset based youth provision for LGBT+ young people. The website also has a lot of useful information and signposts to helpful services.
  • GENDER IDENTITY DEVELOPMENT SERVICE (GIDS) A very useful site that among other things has sections for parents, professionals and young people. The young people’s section has stories from other trans/non-binary young people.
  • STONEWALL This site has a lot of resources aimed at work with early years, primary, secondary and further education settings. These include best practice toolkits and resources, creating an LGBT inclusive primary curriculum. Ten steps to tackling homophobic, biphobic and transphobic language in your school as well as a range of free posters that you can print off. It also includes the document: An introduction to Supporting LGBT Young People – A Guide for Schools.
