  • Cricket World Cup Day

    Mon 04 Mar 2019

On Thursday, Longfleet held a Cricket World Cup Day to celebrate the Cricket World Cup coming to our school. A draw was made previously in which each year group was given a country to learn about and "be" during the day:

    Year 1 - Australia

    Year 2 - India

    Year 3 - New Zealand

    Year 4 - South Africa

    Year 5 - West Indies

    Year 6 - Sri Lanka

During the morning, each year group had cricket sessions with Dorset Cricket Board coaches, as well as learning about their country and practising for their afternoon performances.

In the afternoon, each year group walked to Poole High School's theatre for our very own "World Cup Opening Ceremony". This included seeing the real Cricket World Cup on stage, as well as each year group's fantastic performances, which included poetry, singing, music and dance. Each performance was so very different to the last but they were all outstanding.

Thank you to Poole High, Chance to Shine, the Dorset Cricket Board and Nissan for helping make the day the amazing cricket extravaganza that it was.

  • Year 3 and 4 Tag Rugby

    Fri 01 Mar 2019

Longfleet hosted Hamworthy Park Junior School on Tuesday 26th, and both schools fielded two teams. Both schools showed speed, agility and awareness to score some excellent tries, including some superb individual efforts by Jed and Reuben in particular. The matches were used specifically to increase the children’s understanding of the rules, so the terms “offside” and “knock-on” were brought in during the matches and implemented towards the end.

We are thankful to Hamworthy for bringing their children to us, and our Year 5/6 teams will be travelling to Hamworthy for a fixture on the 26th March.

  • Reception visit to Tesco Branksome

    Thu 28 Feb 2019
Reception had a great time exploring the Tesco Branksome store.  They were allowed 'behind the scenes' to look at the bakery and enjoyed being fruit and vegetable detectives.  It was interesting to find out how far some produce had travelled from around the world to reach us here in Poole!  A big thank you to the staff for their knowledge and patience during our visits and the delicious goodies we were given to share back at school!
  • Reception pirate theatre workshop

    Thu 28 Feb 2019
To conclude our 'Shiver Me Timbers!' topic, Reception had great fun improvising a pirate themed story with 'The Treehouse Theatre' company.  We sang songs, danced and used our imaginations to create a story as a class, using props.
  • Let's go fly a kite..

    Thu 14 Feb 2019
Year One had a wonderful afternoon making kites as their 'Whatever the Weather' topic finale. We had a fantastic amount of parents and grandparents to help with the children's creations.  We were very appreciative of such a great turn out.  The children's kites were truly fantastic and were well tried on the playground!   Thank you to all!

  • Poole SCITT PE Trainee Visit

    Thu 14 Feb 2019
On Wednesday 13th, 30 trainee teachers from Poole SCITT came to Longfleet as part of their year-long teacher training course. As well as 10 week placements in various schools in the local area, they are taught the various subjects by lead teachers. Their PE course is taught by Mr Cole and involves them learning to plan a variety of different activities and games to take with them to their next placements.  Our Year 5 children also had the privilege to be taught by the trainees, who planned and delivered small group sessions. The children loved it and were brilliantly behaved.
