  • Beautiful Brass!

Mon 17 Jun 2019 Miss Wright

Our Year 4 pupils are making fabulous progress on their brass instruments! Take a look at the videos and photographs on the music page of the school website to hear and see them playing. Don't forget there is a concert coming up on Monday 1st July at 2.30pm and we would love you to come and listen. We'll also be talking about opportunities to continue learning the trumpet, cornet or trombone in a smaller group next year. Thanks to all the lovely Year 4 parents who are doing a brilliant job helping their child to remember their instruments every Monday and encouraging them to practice at home!

  • Poole Town Sports Athletics

    Thu 13 Jun 2019

On the 11th of June, some skilled members of the Year 4, 5 and 6 athletics team went to Ashdown for a Town Sports competition.

    We did events including:

    . 75 m                               . Long jump

    . 600m                              . Cricket ball throw

    . 150 m                             . High jump

    . 60 m                                . Hurdles

Some people in our school got through to the County Finals which means they go up against people throughout the County. Unfortunately, it was raining very heavily and it was freezing but we were resilient and we carried on to try our best in everything we did. All the teachers got nice, warm drinks whilst we ran all of our events.

  • Quad Kids

    Thu 13 Jun 2019

On Tuesday 4th June, some Year 5s and 6s went to Broadstone Middle School to take part in the Quad Kids event. At the tournament, we all took part in 4 events: howler throw; standing long jump; 600m and 75m. Overall, our team came 7th. Mr Fehrenbach and Miss Helm were particularly impressed with everyone's resilience and endurance during the 600m!

  • Longfleet Guitar Orchestra: "A New Sea"

Sun 09 Jun 2019 Miss Wright

    https://chriswoodsgroove.co.uk/longfleet-guitar-orchestra-a-new-sea/

Percussive guitarist and composer Chris Woods delivered a fantastic workshop to around 40 Longfleet guitar pupils last week. They are preparing a piece to perform at Soundstorm's "TRANSMISSION" concert which will take place at Upton Country Park on Wednesday 3rd July. If you would like to be in the audience make sure you book tickets through Soundstorm's website as it is sure to be a sell-out event! Guitar pupils, check out the amazing resources Chris has made for you by clicking on the link above. There are four different 'loops' to choose from according to how confident you feel and each one has a video and TAB to help you practise. Our second workshop with Chris is on Tuesday 25th June.

  • Year 5 Kwik Cricket Tournament

    Fri 07 Jun 2019
Longfleet conducted themselves brilliantly at this tournament, held at Poole Grammar School, to finish in 3rd place overall. Wins against Oakdale and St Aldhelm’s in the group stages (including a tense final ball win against the latter) ensured our progress to the semi-finals. We came up against a determined St Joseph’s team, who, after a very close game, beat us by 2 runs (again off the final ball!). This then put us up against St Aldhelm’s (again) for the 3rd/4th place play off. Longfleet won this match by 30 runs. Highlights of the day included a hat trick by Alfie Wathen, which, on its own is amazing in itself, but was made ever more spectacular by Alfie Partridge taking all three catches. One of these, a diving, one-handed effort, Ben Stokes would have been proud of.
  • HLP Reception Athletics

    Wed 05 Jun 2019
The Harbourside Learning Partnership delivered another fun sporting event for our Infant School age children, this time an athletics event at Lilliput Infant School. Longfleet's Sports Ambassadors were on-hand again to show the reception children each event, and they were also giving stickers to any children who finished 1st, 2nd or 3rd in their activities. The children enjoyed sprinting races, sack races, javelin throwing and an agility race. Thank you to Lilliput and particularly Miss Adeney for hosting.

Our Longfleet guitar pupils have been invited to perform at a very exciting event. Soundstorm, our fabulous music hub, are staging a celebration involving schools from across the region at Upton Country Park. The children will have two rehearsals at school with inspirational guitarist and composer, Chris Woods. Have a look at his website to find out more about him https://chriswoodsgroove.co.uk/ All our guitar pupils have taken letters home giving more information. Please return the permission slip by Monday 3rd June if you want to take part.

  • Year 3-4 Tri-Golf

    Thu 23 May 2019
Year 3 and 4 had an excellent morning at Magna Academy, competing against 8 other schools and 12 other teams in total. All of the children had learnt golf at Longfleet by the host of the event, Coach Deej, who put the children through their paces with the help of the excellent Magna Academy Leaders. In a rotation of activities, our 20 children enjoyed chipping and putting games, and were kept active throughout the morning. We couldn't quite finish in the top 3 to qualify for the Dorset Finals, but improved hugely as the morning progressed. Thank you to the parents for coming to support and helping with transport.
  • Superhero Blues!

Thu 23 May 2019 Miss Wright

Our school orchestra recently gained twenty-two new recorder players from Years 3 & 4 and three new violin players from Crocodile Class, taking our numbers up to sixty-five!  To celebrate, we learnt a piece of music called ‘Superhero Blues’ and performed it to the parents after school on Wednesday.

Children representing each of our instruments also performed a piece of music. The recorders kicked off the concert with ‘Chilled’, followed by performances from the flutes and clarinets. Our cello pupils performed Frere Jacques in three parts and a Grade 2 piece called ‘Happy Places’. Jiya then gave us a lovely solo violin performance of a piece from ‘Carmen’. Our trombones, cornets and trumpets gave a lively rendition of ‘Strollin’ followed by impressive solos by Zoya on the piano and Josh on the drumkit. The concert ended with ‘Superhero Blues’ performed by the whole orchestra.

Well done to the orchestra (especially if that was your first ever performance) and thank you to all the parents, families, friends and teachers who came to listen.

  • Year One: Avon Heath Trip

    Thu 23 May 2019
The children in Year One had a fantastic day out at Avon Heath Country Park celebrating all that they had learnt in their 'Roots, Shoots and Muddy Boots' topic. They expertly identified different items from nature in a scavenger hunt and made some wonderfully creative pieces of artwork using objects found around the forest trail. The highlight of the day, however, had to be the den building where they worked as teams to create Bear Grylls-worthy dens. They dragged and arranged branches, furnished their dwellings with logs and even passed the waterproofing inspection! A superb day was had by all!
