Our Year 4 pupils are making fabulous progress on their brass instruments! Take a look at the videos and photographs on the music page of the school website to hear and see them playing. Don't forget there is a concert coming up on Monday 1st July at 2.30pm and we would love you to come and listen. We'll also be talking about opportunities to continue learning the trumpet, cornet or trombone in a smaller group next year. Thanks to all the lovely Year 4 parents who are doing a brilliant job helping their child to remember their instruments every Monday and encouraging them to practice at home!
On the 11th of June, some skilled members of the Year 4, 5 and 6 athletics team went to Ashdown for a Town Sports competition.
We did events including:
. 75 m . Long jump
. 600m . Cricket ball throw
. 150 m . High jump
. 60 m . Hurdles
Some people in our school got through to the County Finals which means they go up against people throughout the County. Unfortunately, it was raining very heavily and it was freezing but we were resilient and we carried on to try our best in everything we did. All the teachers got nice, warm drinks whilst we ran all of our events.

On Tuesday 4th June, some Year 5s and 6s went to Broadstone Middle School to take part in the Quad Kids event. At the tournament, we all took part in 4 events: howler throw; standing long jump; 600m and 75m. Overall, our team came 7th. Mr Fehrenbach and Miss Helm were particularly impressed with everyone's resilience and endurance during the 600m!

Percussive guitarist and composer Chris Woods delivered a fantastic workshop to around 40 Longfleet guitar pupils last week. They are preparing a piece to perform at Soundstorm's "TRANSMISSION" concert which will take place at Upton Country Park on Wednesday 3rd July. If you would like to be in the audience make sure you book tickets through Soundstorm's website as it is sure to be a sell-out event! Guitar pupils, check out the amazing resources Chris has made for you by clicking on the link above. There are four different 'loops' to choose from according to how confident you feel and each one has a video and TAB to help you practise. Our second workshop with Chris is on Tuesday 25th June.
Our Longfleet guitar pupils have been invited to perform at a very exciting event. Soundstorm, our fabulous music hub, are staging a celebration involving schools from across the region at Upton Country Park. The concert is being linked in with the theme of the 50 year anniversary of the first moon landing and is called Transmission. The concert will be on July 3rd at 7pm and if you would like to book tickets please do so as soon as possible through the Soundstorm website. The children will have two rehearsals at school with inspirational guitarist and composer, Chris Woods. Have a look at his website to find out more about him https://chriswoodsgroove.co.uk/ All our guitar pupils have taken letters home giving more information. Please return the permission slip by Monday 3rd June if you want to take part.
Our school orchestra recently gained twenty-two new recorder players from Years 3 & 4 and three new violin players from Crocodile Class, taking our numbers up to sixty-five! To celebrate, we learnt a piece of music called ‘Superhero Blues’ and performed it to the parents after school on Wednesday.
Children representing each of our instruments also performed a piece of music. The recorders kicked off the concert with ‘Chilled’, followed by performances from the flutes and clarinets. Our cello pupils performed Frere Jacques in three parts and a Grade 2 piece called ‘Happy Places’. Jiya then gave us a lovely solo violin performance of a piece from ‘Carmen’. Our trombones, cornets and trumpets gave a lively rendition of ‘Strollin’ followed by impressive solos by Zoya on the piano and Josh on the drumkit. The concert ended with ‘Superhero Blues’ performed by the whole orchestra.
Well done to the orchestra (especially if that was your first ever performance) and thank you to all the parents, families, friends and teachers who came to listen.
