We have a place available for drum kit tuition from 4.40-5pm on Tuesdays, starting after the Half Term break. This is the only time slot that we have available at the moment. There are ten 20 minute lessons per term and the children are taught in pairs. Lesson fees are paid for in advance and our termly charge for lessons is £43. If your child is eligible for Pupil Premium this can be used towards the cost of instrumental lessons. Please let the school office or Miss Wright know if you would like the place. Please see the ‘School Community’ page on the school website for further information about peripatetic music tuition at Longfleet.
THURSDAY 1ST MARCH 2018
6.30 - 8pm AT ST MARY’S LONGFLEET
With so many children at Longfleet learning to play a musical instrument we have decided to host a special concert to share and celebrate their talents.
All children who have lessons on a musical instrument at school (guitar, drums, violin, cello, clarinet, keyboard, piano, trumpet, cornet and trombone) have been invited to perform at the concert. The children will be playing music in groups, so there’s no need for performance nerves – just look forward to a fun evening! The orchestra will begin and conclude the concert.
Everyone is invited to come and listen to the concert. Like all concerts, we ask you to arrive at the beginning and stay until the end out of courtesy to the performers and other audience members. There will be an interval in the middle for you to stretch your legs, catch up with friends and have a cup of tea or squash.
Thanks to Saint Mary’s for hosting this event and to the Longfleet Friends for providing refreshments during the interval.
On Thursday and Friday, Year 5 went to Scaplen’s Court to learn what working in a workhouse was like for children in the Victorian era. We went into the kitchen led by Ms Jelly. She was very strict and had no mercy for weak children. We were taught how to make pancakes, bread, scones, soup and also learnt how to clean and shine. In the classroom, we wrote on slate with chalk and if we were naughty/got the answer wrong, you would wear a dunce’s cap. The Victorians were very strict and everything had to be perfect.

For our new topic 'Whatever the Weather', Year 1 were surprised to have a special visit from Jack Frost.
The children had an exciting morning playing in the snow outside and making class snowmen.
Congratulations to The Platypuses on winning the snowman competition.
On Wednesday 21st March our orchestra will be performing at a Music For Youth Festival in Southampton. Music For Youth is a national youth arts charity that put on many high quality events for young people at both a regional and national level. This is an exciting opportunity for our pupils to perform in front of a wider audience and to be inspired by other young musicians.
The Longfleet Orchestra will also be opening and closing our Longfleet Instrumental concert on Thursday 1st March. For more information about music lessons, clubs and events please check out the music pages on the website.
