On Tuesday 3rd July, Zoo Lab visited Year 5. They showed us several rainforest creatures. These creatures included: a snake called Ruby; a Chilean Rose Tarantula called Tilly; a millipede called Gavin and a snail called Alan.
Gavin had a whopping 248 legs! Milliepedes can grow more. Alan can grow up to the size of a football! Wow!
We got to hold and stroke them except for Tilly because when she gets scared she flicks her hair on her legs and if they land on you it starts to itch.
We learnt lots about the rainforest and the life cycles of these animals.

The results were in today for the children who took ABRSM Clarinet and Recorder exams in June. The results were fantastic and a real credit to the children’s hard work.
Congratulations to:
Everyone at Longfleet is very proud of you!
This week, all of the schools in the Harbourside Learning Partership were involved in the inaugural Harbourside Games. This competiton, held at Ashdown athletics track, had 3 categories - KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2. Across the partnership over 500 children represented their schools, including 140 of our own Longfleet pupils.
The events were:
Standing Long Jump, 75m Hurdles, 75m Sprint, Howler Throw, Hammer Throw, Speed Bounce.
Mr Howeison, the Chief Executive of the HLP was on hand to give out the shiny shields on offer for each category, and we are pleased to say Longfleet won all three! A fantastic effort by the children who participated and the adults who organised the event.
After their success at the Poole Schools Gala, Longfleet took children to be a part of the Poole Schools Swimming Team to compete in the Dorset Schools Gala. Poole Schools were competing against other areas of Dorset, including Christchurch, Bournemouth, Weyport and South, East, West and North Dorset. Eventually, Poole Schools won both the Year 4 and Year 6 competitions.
In Year 4, Longfleet took the winning 25m Mixed Relay Team from the Poole Schools competition to compete against the other winning Dorset Schools. After a close race, Longfleet finished first and are now the Dorset 4x25m Mixed Relay champions!
Back - Alfie Breaststroke - Jamie F/S - Digby F/S - Christopher
Christopher was also part of two individual races. He finished:
1st – 25m Breaststroke
2nd – 25m Freestyle
In the Year 6 competition, Gabriel raced at both the individual 50m Freestyle and was a part of the 25m Freestyle Relay events. I am proud to say he won both of these races.
After the success of the Year 6 team at the Kwik Cricket competition, Year 5/6 Girls and a mixed Year 5 team have also played in tournaments showcasing their batting, bowling and fielding skills against other Poole schools.
For the Year 5/6 girls this was their first competitive tournament and they did brilliantly to win half of their games. Their fielding especially was excellent, with some great diving stops and catches.
The mixed Year 5 team all bowled overarm throughout the competition which was brilliant to see, and their bowling improved dramatically as the competition progressed. Nathan was the pick of the batsman, whilst his brother Harry bowled very straight on a good length throughout.
The children visited Moors Valley Country Park for a "What's that crawling in my garden?" workshop. The children took part in a Mini-beast Hunt around a beautiful meadow and woodland area. They embarked on a Woodland Walk to find out about the characteristics and habitats of these mini-beasts. The children particularly enjoyed the smelly cocktail making (some were truly ghastly!) and caterpillar camouflaging, where the children learnt all about the importance of camouflage. After lunch, the children then enjoyed playing on the play equipment. A truly wonderful day had by all!
Over the past two Tuesdays, children from Year 5 and 6 have taken part in athletics events against other Poole schools.
Our first competition was 'Quadkids' on Tuesday 5th June at Broadstone Middle School. It is a team event where each pupil takes part in four events: 75m, 600m, standing long jump and vortex howler throw. We took two teams of 12 children and thoroughly enjoyed the event.
Our second event was Town Sports that took place at Ashdown running track. Pupils competed in two individual events and we had three children who made the final on the day. Two of our girls finished in th etop two and have therefore have qualified for the County Finals and will represent Poole in their races - well done, Jess (150m) and Sophie (75m).
Thank you to all of the parents and families that helped with transport and supported the children!
