  • Y5 & 6 Football Team through to League Quarter Finals

    Fri 07 Dec 2018

On Friday 7th December, our Y5 and 6 football team played Canford Heath Junior School. After beating Talbot 4 - 0 in our last game, the boys were full of confidence but found themselves one goal down after an excellent free-kick from Canford Heath. However, the boys showed great resilience and Noah scored a sensational goal - controlling the ball excellently and volleying home.

The Lions continued to improve in the second half and made the pressure count as Lewis stabbed the ball in after Harrison's corner.

We are now looking forward to our Dorset Cup match next week and to our next round in the league in January. Well done to all of those who played and supported the team so well.

  • Year 3 and 4 Football Festival

    Tue 04 Dec 2018
Longfleet hosted another Football Festival, with Hamworthy Park Junior bringing four teams, making eight teams in total. The focus of the festival was enjoyment, but there was certainly plenty of skill and effort on show. Goals were plentiful in most matches, with many children scoring their first goals for Longfleet. Hamworthy Park Junior will reciprocate with their own festival in the new year, meaning our Year 3 and 4 children will get another chance to wear the Longfleet "Cubs" shirt with pride.

  • Anti Bullying Week 2018

Wed 21 Nov 2018 clare kent

Wow!  Another busy week at Longfleet!  Last week was Anti Bullying Week and the theme this year was #chooserespect.  The whole school participated in a number of activities throughout the week to raise awareness that bullying behaviour is a choice and that we can all choose our behaviour so let's choose kindness!  We began with our odd sock day on Tuesday.  The children and staff were invited to wear odd socks to highlight the fact that we are all unique and that we should still show respect and value those differences.   The Keep Safe Council presented an Anti Bullying Assembly to promote their role and responsibilities within school and to raise awareness of the fact that bullying is a behaviour choice.  #chooserespect.

The Keep Safe Council distributed a pupil survey regarding attitudes to feeling safe.  The details of which will follow shortly.  The children were also involved in teaming up with another Year group to create some kindness hands ready for our Longfleet Tree of Kindness which will be on display very soon.

  • KS1 Girls' Football Festival

    Tue 20 Nov 2018
Longfleet hosted a KS1 football festival, with four other schools taking part and eight teams overall. The children (and parents) battled the wind and rain for most of the festival, but all showed good resilience against the elements. The main objective of the festival was for the children to have fun, and pick up some basics along the way. Some great goals, tackles and dribbling from all teams ensured many matches were close, although results weren't counted and there wasn't an overall winner. Keep an eye out for the next KS1 event, coming in the New Year.
  • BSO Resound

Fri 16 Nov 2018 Miss Wright
We were lucky enough to be visited by BSO Resound today. Developed as part of BSO Participate's Change Makers project, BSO Resound is a professional ensemble made up of disabled musicians. Under the baton of conductor James Rose, the ensemble treated us to some wonderful classical music this afternoon. The children were spellbound by the sounds of the flute, cello, percussion, violin, linnstrument and clarinet - all expertly led by James. The musicians answered our questions about their instruments, how they experience music and how it feels to play in front of huge audiences. During music lessons this week we have learnt about the ensemble and had some great conversations about what it means to have a disability. Resound have inspired Longfleeters because they are proof that you can overcome barriers in life and that by working hard you can achieve your goals and aspirations. Thank you Resound. We were not all able to fit in the hall to listen this time so please come back and play for us again!
  • Longfleet Lionesses

    Fri 16 Nov 2018

The Longfleet Lionesses continued their excellent form at the Poole Girls' Football Finals, finishing in an unbeaten second place, which was enough to ensure they progressed to the next round, the Dorset Finals at Littledown. Parents watching commented on the improvements made by the girls, in their tackling, positioning and goalscoring. Abigail D again topped the scoring charts with 3 goals, but it was the defence and goalkeeper that really helped the performances, conceding a solitary goal in three games.

    Longfleet 1 - 1 Ocean

    Longfleet 4 - 0 Talbot

    Longfleet 0 - 0 Heatherlands

  • KS1 Howieson Cup Football

    Wed 14 Nov 2018
Longfleet hosted a Football Festival that comprised ten teams from five different schools. With each team playing four matches each, the entertainment was constant for the capacity crowd. "A" team pitches and "B" team pitches ensured most matches were close, with Longfleet running out eventual winners. Thank you to the parents of all the children who supported their teams and brought their children to the festival. The Girls' Football Festival is also at Longfleet, starting 1.30pm next Tuesday 20th November.
  • Symphony 125 Performance at the Royal Albert Hall

Fri 09 Nov 2018 Miss Wright

On Monday 5th September the Longfleet Orchestra took part in the fantastic Music For Youth Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The adventure began way back in 2016 when Soundstorm and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra invited us to help compose and perform a piece of music to celebrate the BSO’s 125th birthday. Have a look at the great video (on our Music page) from Hands-On Media which will tell you more about our journey from there to the Royal Albert Hall.

The concert on Monday was truly amazing. We were inspired by the performances from other groups including an outstanding trumpet soloist, awesome rock bands, a very professional young brass band, uplifting choirs and impressive orchestras. However, the highlight of the evening was the massed ensemble performance of Symphony 125. We were part of an ensemble of 600 secondary, primary and special school pupils from Poole, Bournemouth, the Isle of Wight and Southampton as well as BSO musicians. The piece featured orchestral music, singing, body percussion, a ‘chimes take-over’ and a hand bell section; it had the whole audience on their feet applauding at the end! The concert ended with finale song performed by everyone. At the end of the song balloons fell from the ceiling, fireworks exploded and streamers filled the air – a spectacular end to a spectacular concert!
