  • Royal Albert Hall Here We Come!

Sun 04 Nov 2018 Miss Wright

    http://www.mfy.org.uk/events/mfy-proms/

The Longfleet School Orchestra spent their Saturday rehearsing in a ferry terminal this weekend! It was the only space big enough to house the 550 primary, secondary, special school and Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra musicians meeting up for the very first time. The children and young people came form schools in Poole, Bournemouth, Southampton and the Isle Of Wight. The purpose? To rehearse for our massed ensemble performance at the Music For Youth Proms at the Albert Hall on Monday 5th November. The sound during the rehearsal was incredible: full orchestral sections, choral singing, body percussion, handbells - it had everything. The composer James Redwood jointly conducted the huge ensemble with BSO conductor, Frank Zielhorst. The whole event was brilliantly co-ordinated by Soundstorm and the Bournemouth Symphony orchestra. Thanks to all involved for a wonderful day and we are really looking forward to the Royal Albert Hall performance on Monday!

  • Year 3 Fossil Talk

    Thu 01 Nov 2018 Year 3
Thursday afternoon we travelled back millions of years as Mr Ragget, Reuben’s grandad and volunteer at a museum near Kimmeridge, talked to us about fossils. We saw how the Earth’s continents looked millions of years ago and how the layers in rocks can show us the history of the Earth.

The Jurassic Coast is a fabulous place to hunt for fossils and it is full of natural history. The coast hides many fossils and ammonites, that are still being found.

Mr. Ragget had pictures of dinosaurs and spoke about what they ate and how they behaved. He explained how the fossils came to be on the sea floor and why we find fossils on the beach.

It was surprising how small some species of dinosaurs actually were. We were shown how small they were, smaller than us. Then he showed us one dinosaur tooth that was the size of our hand. This tooth would have been one of four in the mouth of a dinosaur bigger than our small hall. When the teeth became blunt the teeth fell out and another grew.

  • Dorset School Games Boccia Tournament

    Thu 01 Nov 2018
Today, Longfleet entered two teams into the Dorset School Games Boccia Tournament. We had an amazing day and everyone played really well, particularly showing our school value of aspiration! Longfleet 1 won one of their games 8-0 and Longfleet 2 won all of their games but one. Well done to all of the children who participated!
  • Learnersaur launch day

    Tue 30 Oct 2018
Some strange dinosaur footprints appeared in the Reception playground yesterday...the Learnersaurs had arrived at Longfleet!  The Learnersaurs encourage our Reception children to become more aware of their learning behaviours and the skills that help them to learn best.  Their names are Tryatops, Explorasaur, Solveosaurus Rex, Stickasaurus, Askaraptor and Thinkadocus.  We had lots of fun completing six activities linked to these learning characteristics.

    Wed 17 Oct 2018
Yesterday, 19 year 5s and 6s went to Oakdale to play some friendly matches. Everyone played brilliantly and it was great practise for the season ahead! The Year 6s were especially skilled and won their game 11-0! Sydney and Harri particularly impressed Miss Davies in their game. Well done to everyone who played!
  • Year 3/4 Longfleet Football

Tue 16 Oct 2018 Mr Cole

Hamworthy Park Junior hosted a mini-tournament, comprising 4 teams (2 from each school). Longfleet's teams showed great promise, with some exceptionally well-taken goals and some robust and at times last-ditch defending. Longfleet A were unbeaten in the tournament, scoring 8 goals in 3 games and conceding 1. Longfleet B were only beaten by Longfleet A in the final match 1-0. They drew 1-1 with Hamworthy A and beat Hamworthy B.

  • Bronze Sports Ambassadors

    Tue 16 Oct 2018

Today, six of our Year 5 sports ambassadors have visited Poole High School to take part in a Bronze Ambassador award. They have learned important leadership skills such as communication and planning. They have also learned a number of playground games which they are looking forward to teaching when they get back to school!

  • Longfleet Lionesses

Mon 15 Oct 2018 Mr Cole
The Year 5/6 Longfleet Girls' Football Team (The Lionesses) performed outstandingly well to win their final three matches of a Girls' Tournament held at Carter Community School and are now through to the Poole Schools Finals.  After a determined performance in the first game against a strong Haymoor side, missed chances were to be Longfleet's undoing as we were outdone by an outstanding solo effort in the last seconds to lose 1-0. The next three matches all went our way with solid 1-0 victories, with all goals scored courtesy of an inspired Abigail. We look forward to the Poole Finals, which are to be held at Carter Community School on Thursday 15th November.
  • Less than a month to go until the Royal Albert Hall performance!

Thu 11 Oct 2018 Miss Wright
On Monday 5th November the Longfleet School Orchestra will be performing as part of a large ensemble at the Music For Youth Primary Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The performance has been planned and co-ordinated by Soundstorm and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and we are thrilled to be taking part. The children are really enjoying working alongside professional musicians, composers, conductors and other school children to prepare for the big day. Today we were visited by associate BSO musician, Neil Valentine. We had great fun practising the piece and getting some really helpful tips and feedback. Having the Year 7 pupils back for the day made it feel very special and they were all a great credit to their new secondary schools. Our next big rehearsal will be in Southampton on 3rd November.
