The willow artists arrived in school today and work has begun on our new willow classroom (The Secret Story Dome!).  Every class will have the opportunity over the course of two days to go and help Mary-Ann and Angus build the dome and make their own willow wands to take home.

Book Week 2017 began with a visit from a fabulous author, actor and story teller - Chris Connaughton.  He told stories to each year group across the school and had all the children spellbound.

Thursday was a busy day at the school as we held the Spelling Bee finals for the whole school, a Pirate Theatre workshop for our Reception pupils and a Kite Making afternoon for the Year One children and their parents.

 

We appreciate all the effort that has gone into learning the spellings for the competition and the standard across the Grand Finals was very high.

Year 6 SATs information meeting is this Monday 6th February from 15:30 - 16:30 in the year 6 mobile classrooms. Please come along if possible!

This term we are focusing on the school value of perseverance and with this in mind we have introduced Fit Friday.  On a Friday afternoon all the children will complete one of the following fitness activities - Dance Magic, Circuits, Sports Day Races or a Mini-Marathon.  The sight of hundreds of pupils doing sport at the same time is tremendous and leaves everyone 'glowing' at the end of the week.

Please kindly note we would like to acknowledge every child’s certificate or award for their activities in and out of school.

 

However, it has been agreed, going forward we will be acknowledging the majority of recreational activity awards during their Class Collective Worship Time. For any awards or certificates that are an OUTSTANDING achievement we will also read these out during Celebration Assembly on a Friday.

 

The reason for this change is so that we can prioritise the Celebration Assembly for Stars of the Week, Headteacher Awards, WOW Work and House Point Winners.

As part of our new topic, Year 2 enjoyed celebrating different countries and cultures. The children came to school dressed in clothing to represent a country of their choice. They also enjoyed sharing interesting facts and had the opportunity to taste a range of food from around the world.

The Sports Ambassadors were invited to take part in a Sports Morning at Victoria School. Each activity was led by groups of students from Victoria School to give our children an insight into a variety of new sports and leadership responsibilities. It was an incredible experience for our children to see the amazing skills of students with additional needs and how expertly they communicated and led the sessions. Our Sports Ambassadors returned to school with an immense enthusiasm to promote excellent communication and inclusion through sport at Longfleet.

Ahoy there me hearties!  Reception had lots of fun on 'Pirate Day' to introduce a new topic called, 'Shiver Me Timbers!'.  The children made ships biscuits, created collage artwork and made saltdough treasure.  We are looking forward to participating in a pirate theatre workshop at the end of this half term.
