• Rockley Day 4

  We have had an amazing day on our day sail today. We travelled all the way to Wareham and had a picnic. Then we sailed around Poole harbour and finally headed back to the lodge. We are looking forward to chicken tikka for dinner.

• Rockley Day 3

  Yesterday, our first group left and our second group arrived. We did a fun combination of land and water activities! Group B are looking forward to their day sail today.

  Everyone had a great first day at Rockley. They were windsurfing, sailing and canoeing. 

  

• Year 6 Activities Week

  This week, Year 6 have thoroughly enjoyed their Activities Week. They have been swinging through the tree tops at Go Ape, laughing at 'The Nut Job 2' and showing the teachers up with their excellent bowling skills. They also enjoyed a more relaxed couple of days when playing games at Whitecliff with their friends. The children thoroughly enjoyed Sports Day and demonstrated excellent skill in a variety of sporting activities. 

   

  The children truly deserved a wonderful week after all of their efforts and all of the teachers are extremely proud of them for their achievements this year. 

  

• Year 5 Zoo Lab Visit

  On Tuesday 3rd July, Zoo Lab visited Year 5. They showed us several rainforest creatures. These creatures included: a snake called Ruby; a Chilean Rose Tarantula called Tilly; a millipede called Gavin and a snail called Alan. 

   

  Gavin had a whopping 248 legs! Milliepedes can grow more. Alan can grow up to the size of a football! Wow!

   

  We got to hold and stroke them except for Tilly because when she gets scared she flicks her hair on her legs and if they land on you it starts to itch. 

   

  We learnt lots about the rainforest and the life cycles of these animals.

• Year 6 at the Ageas Bowl

  Ten boys from Year 6 had their first taste of watching live cricket last Friday evening at the Ageas Bowl, Hampshire, and loved every second. From having their shirts, tickets and cricket balls signed by famous players (including last year's Ashes debutant, Mason Crane), to getting their faces on the big screen, the children had an amazing time. Apart from the result (Hampshire lost by a considerable margin!) it was an experience the Year 6 children won't forget. Thank you to the parents for staying until 11.30pm to pick the children up, and to Mr Heawood for kindly driving the minibus to and from the ground.

  

• Music Exam Success

  The results were in today for the children who took ABRSM Clarinet and Recorder exams in June. The results were fantastic and a real credit to the children’s hard work.

  Congratulations to:

  • Teddy who passed Grade 2 Clarinet with Merit
  • Ava, Coralie, Matthew, Skye, Mia, Carrie and Lucy who all got a Distinction for Grade 1 Clarinet
  • Evie and Eden who passed Grade 1 Clarinet with Merit
  • Abi and Thomas who passed Grade 1 Descant Recorder with Merit

  Everyone at Longfleet is very proud of you!

  

• Harbourside Games

  This week, all of the schools in the Harbourside Learning Partership were involved in the inaugural Harbourside Games. This competiton, held at Ashdown athletics track, had 3 categories - KS1, Lower KS2 and Upper KS2. Across the partnership over 500 children represented their schools, including 140 of our own Longfleet pupils.

   

  The events were:

  Standing Long Jump, 75m Hurdles, 75m Sprint, Howler Throw, Hammer Throw, Speed Bounce.

   

  Mr Howeison, the Chief Executive of the HLP was on hand to give out the shiny shields on offer for each category, and we are pleased to say Longfleet won all three! A fantastic effort by the children who participated and the adults who organised the event.
