The Year 5/6 Longfleet Girls' Football Team (The Lionesses) performed outstandingly well to win their final three matches of a Girls' Tournament held at Carter Community School and are now through to the Poole Schools Finals.  After a determined performance in the first game against a strong Haymoor side, missed chances were to be Longfleet's undoing as we were outdone by an outstanding solo effort in the last seconds to lose 1-0. The next three matches all went our way with solid 1-0 victories, with all goals scored courtesy of an inspired Abigail. We look forward to the Poole Finals, which are to be held at Carter Community School on Thursday 15th November.

On Monday 5th November the Longfleet School Orchestra will be performing as part of a large ensemble at the Music For Youth Primary Proms at the Royal Albert Hall in London. The performance has been planned and co-ordinated by Soundstorm and the Bournemouth Symphony Orchestra and we are thrilled to be taking part. The children are really enjoying working alongside professional musicians, composers, conductors and other school children to prepare for the big day. Today we were visited by associate BSO musician, Neil Valentine. We had great fun practising the piece and getting some really helpful tips and feedback. Having the Year 7 pupils back for the day made it feel very special and they were all a great credit to their new secondary schools. Our next big rehearsal will be in Southampton on 3rd November.

Our Year 5 and 6 football teams have made a strong start to the season with a series of great performances. The Year 5 and 6 league team started their group games last week by beating St Mary’s Catholic Primary 5-2 and won their second game 1-0 against Ocean Academy.

The Year 5 team were unbeaten in a recent football festival and beat St Mary’s 4-0 and Hillbourne 1-0 whilst drawing with Broadstone.

The Space Dome

The Space Dome was epic! We learnt so many facts - it was awesome! For example, we learnt that the red spot on Jupiter is a storm as well as about other planets like Pluto, Neptune, Mars, Uranus and Venus. We also saw the different phases of the moon and the suns orbit with hi-tech holograms. Some of the best parts were when we zoomed in to different planets and saw all of their moons e.g. Deimos and Phobos (Mars’s moons). Uranus had the most moons and these are some of them: Ariel, Cupid, Sycorax, Caliban, Ophelia, Puck and Juliet. (Do you notice anything strange about these names? That’s right! Shakespeare names.)

There are such Galaxies as Cannibal Galaxies, which suck up other ones and can make some of those planets go into their Solar System! Did you know that the Milkyway Galaxy (that we are in) is actually a Cannibal Galaxy and is currently eating one? Andromeda (another Galaxy) is soon going to join our one in the next Century. One of the other things is that the planets in our Solar System orbit the sun and the Moon orbits our planet.

The last thing was that we were able to see a holographic blueprint; we saw inside it, the orbit of it, the rooms and the parts of the I.S.S. We finally saw how many light years it takes to get round the Milky Way and it was estimated over 9 hundred billion. We also watched a film of a rover on Mars and learnt that people are experimenting with life on Mars.

10 lucky children from Year 5 were chosen to represent the school on an afternoon trip to AFC Bournemouth's Vitality Stadium. After a tour of the stadium, the children were coached by AFCB coaches and then played matches against another local school (St Mary's, who are also in the photo). The 10 children had an amazing afternoon and look forward to the AFCB coaches returning to our school every Wednesday until half term.

We have had an amazing day on our day sail today. We travelled all the way to Wareham and had a picnic. Then we sailed around Poole harbour and finally headed back to the lodge. We are looking forward to chicken tikka for dinner.
