There is a space for a KS2 pupil to start drumming lessons this term. The lessons are on Mondays from 4.20 - 4.40pm. There are 10 lessons per term, with our peripatetic teacher, Rob Lacey. The lessons are taught in pairs and the cost is £43 per term, per pupil. Preference will be given to children in Year 4 or 5 as they will be sharing the lesson with a Year 5 pupil. However, if you are in Year 3, good at listening and have lots of enthusiasm you could be just the right person!
If you are interested in taking up the place please contact Miss Wright or the school office. If you are interested in drumming lessons but can't do the time slot we have available please ask Miss Wright or the school office to add your name to the waiting list.
On the Friday 11th May, 3:30pm, we are hosting a Parent Internet Safety Talk provided by SSCT. The Safe Schools & Communities Team (SSCT) is a partnership between Dorset Police and the Dorset Combined Youth Offending Service, with a remit to prevent and reduce anti-social behaviour, crime and wrong-doing amongst children and young people, and help keep them safe in a digital world.
Come along and learn about the dangers of the Internet.
Child supervision provided.
Yesterday, 25 Year 3 and 4s walked to Oakdale Junior School to take part in a Netball tournament. Everyone showed lots of enthusiasm and it was a great opportunity to put everything they had learnt over the last 2 terms into practise. One of the Year 4 teams even won their section! Well done to everyone who took part!
Longfleet had an action-packed (and occasionally soggy) Sport Relief Day. The "mini-marathon" was a triumph of resilience and kindness, with the KS2 children helping the Reception and Year One children complete as many laps as possible. The "Dance-Off" sessions were loved by the children, with Reception in particular showing great energy. The children also completed activities inside, such as "Design-a-kit" and indoor games such as table football and even shove ha'penny!
Have a great Easter Break!
We loved New Barn but it was very muddy in places, especially on the second day after we had been walking around and it had rained. We absolutely loved the food. At the BBQ we could have a sausage, burger, cheese and chips. We could have as much as we wanted as long as we ate what we took. The yummy pudding was Rocky Road. For breakfast you could have cereals, toast, sausage, bacon, baked beans and /or mushrooms and a drink.
During the survival activity day, we really enjoyed making embers. Some of us saw smoke. We also learnt how to collect water, which meant we had to build a water trap. We built a shelter after creating a plan using a mini version of the equipment, we would be given to create our life side shelters. Some of us were very successful and sadly some of our shelters fell over, but we had fun and worked on our team building skills. Our last skill was about getting food and we had a chance to throw spears, (parents – don’t panic, they were actually bamboo sticks!)
On the Celtic day we learnt how to grind flour. The people who had the Celtic Day on the first day were successful in making butter, unfortunately the children who did it on the second day were unsuccessful as it was cold and wet. We got to look at and hold Celtic weapons. They were heavier than they looked. We learnt many facts sitting around a fire in the Grand Hall, a mud hut made of poo and straw, covered in a chalk mixture. The session ended with a historical story around a fire in a round house. The smell in of the fire really got into our clothes and hair.
We returned home tired and happy to see our families, having had a great time.
Year 6 have had an amazing day thinking about, and celebrating, the end of World War 2. Activities in the morning included a workshop run by Poole Museum, a jive lesson, and creating party bunting and decorations.
In the afternoon we enjoyed a street party with all our friends. The children had been very busy preparing jam sandwiches and homemade lemonade which was shared during the festivities. We listened to Churchill’s speech declaring Germany’s surrender, sang the National Anthem and performed our dances to our parents.
We would like to thank the children, parents and staff for their efforts in dressing up and contributing to the feast!
A massive THANK YOU to all the parents and carers who came into school for Year 1’s Great British Make Off. The children had a fantastic time making their landmarks and it was wonderful to see some very creative parents helping to make some truly inspired models! It is always a pleasure to share the children’s learning with you and we hope to see you at our next Fab Finale in the Summer Term.
